(31 July&nbsp;2014) \u2013&nbsp;<strong>Housing affordability<\/strong> and solving&nbsp;<strong>homelessness<\/strong>&nbsp;are the most important challenges facing Vancouver, according to a poll conducted this month by Justason Market Intelligence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Housing and housing affordability<\/strong> top the list of Vancouver&#8217;s challenges with unprompted mentions from 27% of residents, followed by <strong>homelessness and poverty<\/strong> (17%). A further five per cent (5%) mention <strong>cost of living<\/strong>, a challenge related both to housing affordability and homelessness. <strong>Public transportation<\/strong> and the municipal government&#8217;s <strong>fiscal management<\/strong> also register as important challenges for groups of fewer&nbsp;than 10%.<\/p>\n<p>Among <strong>renters<\/strong>, one-third (35%) cite housing affordability as a top challenge for the city.<\/p>\n<p>Residents aged 65 and older cite <strong>fiscal management \/ wasteful spending<\/strong> as a top concern (17%), near par&nbsp;with this group&#8217;s concern about&nbsp;<strong>housing affordability<\/strong>&nbsp;(22%) and <strong>homelessness<\/strong> (18%).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.justasonmi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Slide01-e1406845207472.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4030\" src=\"http:\/\/www.justasonmi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Slide01-e1406845207472.jpg\" alt=\"Slide01\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Priority issues<\/h2>\n<p>Mirroring these top concerns for the City, just over half of Vancouverites identify <strong>ending homelessness<\/strong> as the top priority for Vancouver for the next three years (54%). <strong>Improving vehicle infrastructure<\/strong> is a top priority for one-third (32%) of residents, ahead of improving <strong>cycling and walking infrastructure<\/strong> (21%).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.justasonmi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Slide041.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4034\" src=\"http:\/\/www.justasonmi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Slide041.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Is Vision Vancouver supporting fading?<\/h2>\n<p>The same poll finds that half of likely voters now describe themselves as <strong>less supportive of Vision Vancouver<\/strong> than they were a few years ago. Fifteen per cent (15%) are now more supportive of Vision, while 31% say there has been no change in their level of support for Vision Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>Groups who are now less supportive of Vision:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Voters aged 55 and older (60-65% are now less supportive)<\/li>\n<li>Supporters of Gregor Robertson in 2011 (39%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.justasonmi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Slide05.jpg\"><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-4033\" src=\"http:\/\/www.justasonmi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Slide05.jpg\" alt=\"Slide05\" width=\"600\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Research Notes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<address><em>These are the findings of a Justason Market Intelligence Inc. poll of 350&nbsp;adult residents of the City of Vancouver.
