Vancouver split on gas tax

Vancouver, BC (Aug 17, 2011) – A July survey by Justason Market Intelligence (JMI) finds Vancouver residents are about equally divided between supporting and opposing the two-cent gas tax proposed to help fund the Evergreen line.

Twenty-three percent (23%) of Vancouver residents “strongly support” the suggested gas tax. Twenty-nine percent (29%) “strongly oppose.”

Support for the tax is highest among:

  • men (55% versus 42%)
  • Downtown residents (57%)
  • Vision Vancouver supporters (63% versus 40% and 45% among COPE and NPA supporters)
